Continued Automotive Woes

This past Sunday saw the “Check Engine” light come on as I drove down the Vanier Parkway.Needless to say my heart sank, but thankfully Dax kept running. The only thing I difference I could discern was that the removal and application of torque, as I released and applied throttle, was more abrupt than normal. Then I came to a red light. No, she didn’t stall. Rather, the tach dropped to the normal 750 – 1,000 rpm range and then rose up to 1,500 rpm and held there. I got to my destination, parked and went inside.

When I came out, I was fully prepared to call a cab, but she started normally and idled in the normal range. The light, however, was still on and it wasn’t a false alarm as her idle eventually rose to 1,500 rpm.

So this morning saw me once again at the service counter at Hunt Club Honda. I got a call a couple of hours later telling me that the electronic valve that controls the engine’s idle was dead and that it would be $510 to replace it. Repairs to be done tomorrow. Sigh…
