The snow keeps falling as our driveway gets smaller, our backyard deck disappears, and what remains of the path to our front door ceases to be passable. This winter has seen more snow than I have seen during my nearly 33 years in Canada. So far this season, we’ve had one day that set the second highest one-day snowfall record, and our total snow as of March 6 was 357cm. All this now has produced snow banks so high that our snow removal service is finding it impossible to put the snow on top of the bank. Our street is so narrow that two cars can’t easily pass by one another.

Now that we’re in the middle of another big blizzard that might bring 30 – 50cm by the time it ends, we’re not quite sure how our small street is going to cope with it all. We know the City is having a hard time as snow removal crews, which have so far consumed $18.5 million, have been forced to tow vehicles from one street to another in order to allow snow to be cleared.

Looking outside right now, all one sees is dense snowfall being driven downwards by strong winds. The snow drift is half-way up our patio door and the posts supporting the pergola roof on our deck are 5/8ths covered. Needless to say, we won’t be getting out tomorrow. In addition to trying to move some snow away from the basement window and the patio door, I’ll try to get some photos and post them here.
