Details 2 2009
Blast off to a season celebrating the marvels of our environment!
The stamps you’ll find in the upcoming second quarter of 2009 are themselves a wonder to behold, celebrating nature in all its glory—from the celestial gems of our universe to the influence of North American boundary waters on its citizens, the labours of sturdy Canadian work horses, the Monarch caterpillar, and more!
The extraordinary International Year of Astronomy stamp leads the way, and this issue is sure to be talked about for years to come. Stunning images of nebulas chosen for these two stamps also make a perfect backdrop for the mesmerizing uncut press sheet shown at left, and aliens wander the universe on the souvenir sheet (hint: viewable only under black light).
This spring, we also add another stamp to the Beneficial Insect series with the Monarch caterpillar. Collectors will love this playful definitive, as the enchanting little critter squirms its way on to a two-cent stamp and then crawls right on to the pane’s borders.
Canada Post is also delighted to participate in an important international stamp campaign to bring attention to the far-reaching effect of climate change on the world’s Polar Regions, contributing the striking Preserving the Poles stamp. Our involvement in this extensive partnership provides us a great opportunity to connect, interact with and learn from other members of the greater network of postal administrations to which we belong, all the while helping to bring awareness.
Canadian Diplomacy helps round out the quarter. This stamp, featuring the Canadian flag intersected by an image of the globe, will be issued on the 100th anniversary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and proudly celebrate Canada’s ever-growing role on the world’s diplomatic stage.
After perusing this issue of Details, we hope you’ll agree with us that the stamps this spring are, as always, captivating and remarkable. But you be the judge—go ahead and get started!
