Presenting a remarkable season finale!

As yet another busy year winds to an end, I’m delighted to share with you the last few stamps in our exciting 2008 stamp program.

The quarter begins with the announcement of a stamp for Mental Health to help raise awareness about this pervasive problem in today’s society.  One of only three semi-postal stamps ever issued, these PERMANENTTM stamps will carry a 10-cent surcharge that will be donated to the newly created Canada Post Foundation for Mental Health, which was established to raise funds toward research and patient support.

October once again brings Endangered Species stamps in time for Stamp Month, an ideal time to introduce youth to the compelling world of philately.  The final in this three-year series, this set highlights creatures of the sky, completing the cycle that began with at-risk wildlife native to the land and sea, and conveys powerful messages about protecting our fragile environment for both children and adults alike.

On the subject of the environment, Details itself is beginning to see the results of efforts to be greener.  Among other initiatives this year, the product listing has been redesigned and combined with the order form, saving some 12 printed pages with each issue.  We hope you’ll agree that the facelift also makes this section easier to read and use.  The full product listing will continue to be updated quarterly and posted online at www.canadapost.ca/collecting.

This year’s Christmas stamps will feature an extraordinary Nativity scene from the works of Italian-Canadian sculptor Antonio Caruso, and Winter Fun stamps showcasing three popular winter activities. The playful trio will also, for the first time, be available in souvenir sheet format.  And for the second consecutive year, the domestic rates will be issued as PERMANENT stamps.

We think the stamps in this quarter are fascinating and exceptional.  But don’t take our word for it – turn the page and see for yourselves!
